Dyslexia Treatment - Series Two

What's it all about?

By now you will have noticed that the lessons, used to treat reading problems, are not easy, not fun, and not short. They require a tremendous amount of effort on the part of the individual student. The long lessons keep the student's mind engaged for a long period of time. This helps stimulate learning. Make sure the students can recognize and pronounce the key words before moving to the lessons.

Normally, students who have learning problems, read the same material over and over at the same rate. Look for improvement by timing the students on their favorite short story so you can tell how fast they read. Do the test before and after they have studied a few phonics lessons. Give them credit for improvement.

Give the students a copy of the translation guide to help them with each lesson. They should refer to the table regularlly.
You will notice several things as they go through the course.

1. They may not appear to do the lesson faster, but they will learn to read faster.
2. They will become much better at using the dictionary.
3. After a while they will be able to translate common words without using the dictionary.
4. When students continue the series they will improve their vocabulary for spoken words and the written words.

Series Three
Lesson One

Pure Phonics Translation
Study each par of word, the written form and the spoken form. Use one from to help you sound out and pronounce the other form. When you can pronounce the words together, practice pronouncing each list of word separately. When you can pronounce each word separately, move to lesson two and study pure phonics.

This lesson might take two to six weeks

Lesson Two

Study the following lessons by sounding out each individual word. When you can sound out each word, learn to recognize each word by site. Take as long as necessary to learn to pronounce each word. Each time you do the lesson, you will recognize each word a little faster. Also, notice that the more you study pure phonics, the better you will be able to read the written forms.

This lesson could last from two to six weeks.
